Carbon Credits Workshop

Ann Smith Enviromark Solutions introduces the complex topic of carbon credits.

Ann Smith Enviromark Solutions introduces the complex topic of carbon credits.

The Trust held a workshop in early October to investigate whether registering native forest restoration properties for carbon credits can assist with their long term financial sustainability and to explore if there is a role for the Trust in co-ordinating partnerships across Peninsula properties.

We are grateful to Enviromark Solutions for hosting us at Landcare, and to our speakers Dr. Ann Smith of Enviromark Solutions, and Mark and Ollie Belton from Permanent Forests NZ for their excellent explanations of this complex topic and the current situation in New Zealand.  Click here to see their presentations:

Ollie Belton – Registering for Carbon Offsets

The Trust also thanks our guests from Joseph Langer Trust, Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust and QE II National Trust for attending and contributing to the lively discussion.

The intention now is to use the Langer property in Le Bons Bay as a pilot project and to work together to register it for carbon credits under the PFSI scheme.  Once we have learnt more through that project, we will attempt to write up the “recipe” and assist others to also register.
