Te Ahu Pātiki project launched

Rod Donald Trust is delighted to announce that it has an agreement with the landowner to purchase Te Ahu Pātiki – 500ha of iconic land above Whakaraupō/Lyttelton Harbour. The land includes the two highest peaks in the Christchurch area, Mt Herbert/Te Ahu Pātiki and Mt Bradley. The area will become a Hinewai style conservation park protected in perpetuity with full public access and managed to enable the natural regeneration of native vegetation.

Fundraising is underway to raise $600,000 to complete the purchase and set up the park. To make a donation visit the Christchurch Foundation website.

Partnerships:

Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke have mana whenua over this area and are supporting the project.

Neighbouring Orton Bradley Park have pledged a substantial contribution toward the purchase and offered to manage and eventually own Te Ahu Pātiki.

Old growth and regenerating areas on the land provide a seed source for further natural regeneration
