Te Ara Pātaka Day Shelter

We will be installing a day shelter on Te Ara Pātaka, north of the Mt Sinclair Reserve to provide a resting point between the Port Levy Saddle and Hilltop. With plans to collect rainwater for drinking, as well as a long drop toilet, this will provide a great spot for a break from the weather and a chance to pause and enjoy the spectacular views and bush from this location.

Initial plans were for us to construct a shelter from scratch, but when DOC suggested gifting and relocating the former Evangeline Bivvy, our Board agreed this was a great opportunity to breathe new life back into this character building.

Our Rod Donald Hut Manager David Brailsford is also a craftsman builder and has great plans for providing the 1964 building with a new lease of life that will include repairs and making it suitable for use as a shelter. We will keep you posted about the shelter’s progress in future newsletters.
