The Trust has worked in partnership with Nature Heritage Fund and the Langer Trust to secure the area of Saddle Hill/ Puaitahi as a scenic reserve to be owned and administered by the Department of Conservation.
The reserve straddles the ridge between Akaroa harbour and Reynolds Valley and contains some outstanding native snow tussock vegetation as well as the popular rock climb known as Coffin rock. A walking track will now be marked from the Bossu road to the summit giving spectacular views over Akaroa Harbour, Te Roto o Wairewa, Te Waihora, the ocean and the alps.
