Rod Donald ‘Get to 20’ Challenge – A Great Community Response

The Rod Donald Get to 20 Challenge has wrapped up, and we’re delighted with the level of community engagement it generated. The challenge encouraged people to get outdoors, explore Banks Peninsula, and connect with nature in simple, achievable ways.

In total, 75 people entered the challenge, showing strong interest and enthusiasm. While 17 participants shared photos of their challenges, the wider number of entries suggests many more people were out and about completing activities and enjoying the Peninsula in their own way.

A real highlight was the generous support from local businesses, who provided a fantastic range of prizes and helped strengthen local connections through the challenge.

Building on this momentum, the popular activity grid is now being adapted and refreshed with a summer theme, so people can continue to be inspired to get outside, try new activities, and enjoy Banks Peninsula over the warmer months.

Overall, the Get to 20 Challenge successfully encouraged people to engage with the landscape, support local businesses, and take part in something positive for their wellbeing — very much in the spirit of Rod Donald and the values of the Trust. Ngā mihi nui to everyone who took part and helped make it a success.

A special mention goes to Jo McKay, who was the overall winner after completing all 20 challenges — an impressive effort made even more remarkable as she did so ahead of upcoming foot surgery. We’d also like to give a shout-out to Trust Board member Duncan Bright, who was inspired by the challenge to get out and complete all 20 walks himself, showing just how motivating and accessible the Get to 20 Challenge proved to be.

We love this photo of Jo at the top of Misty Peaks high above Akaroa!
