Rangiora Tramping Club helps with working bee

The RDBPT held its first working bee on May 22nd with the help of the Rangiora Tramping Club. Club members Jill, Helen, Prue and Chris were joined by RDBPT’s manager Suky Thompson in clearing bush lawyer and other vegetation from a section of the track along the Summit Walkway at Mt Fitzgerald about 5kms from the new Rod Donald Hut. The combined team did a fabulous job, and walkers will now find the track much easier to follow along the edge of the reserve and much easier to pass through.

The hut is not yet open to the public, but experienced tramping clubs are trying it out and giving the Trust feedback. The Rangiora women spent a happy night at the Rod Donald Hut after the working bee and enjoyed its cosiness. Useful feedback was provided on sensitive smoke alarms, potential trip hazards and the need for little holders for torches and glasses by the bunks!  We are hoping to get the hut open by the end of June, so keep an eye on this News feed for the latest details.
