The children’s art class at Corina Hazlett Art Studios have produced this amazing painting and are auctioning it as a fundraising project for the Rod Donald Trust. The auction is listed on TradeMe on with a closing date of Sunday 19th June.
Corina tells us” This has been a wonderful project for my youngest students raising awareness through their art for the valuable work that the Rod Donald Banks Peninsula Trust does. Each young artist has created their own unique feather with Acrylic Ink to add to the bird. Using metallic uniball pens on top of the inks the children decorated their feathers. The approx 50 feathers that were individually made by the children reminded us more of a traditional Maori cloak as opposed to just the bird’s own feathers hence the title “Queen Kereru with her cloak of feathers”. Her crown is made from kowhai flowers and the ‘Kereru Queen’ is on stretched canvas 1m high x 76cm wide.

We are totally impressed with the artistic skills that have gone into producing this and want to say a huge thankyou to all involved for this great fundraising initiative!

In the meantime you can also support the Trust by purchasing these great t-shirts, hoodies and baby items with the ‘Kereru Queen’ image on them. The back of the shirts lists all of the artists involved in the project. Click HERE for more information or to place an order.
