Koukourarata Hui

Koukourarata Hui

Rod Donald Banks Peninsula Trust staff and Trustees were given a warm welcome at a Koukourarata Hui on Sunday the 14th June. The hui represents ongoing efforts by the Trust to form closer relationships with Banks Peninsula rūnanga. Among topics discussed were potential names for the walkway that will traverse the ridgelines of Banks Peninsula from Gebbies Pass to the Hilltop, and which was previously called the Spine of the Lizard. Earlier consultation with Peninsula rūnanga indicated that it was not culturally appropriate to use the Lizard in the tracks name. Potential names with significance to Banks Peninsula rūnanga have now been proposed and it is hoped a final decision will be made soon.
