Volunteer Day at Rod Donald Hut

A road closure on Western Valley Road did not deter a hardy team of helpers from getting up to the Rod Donald Hut to assist at a recent volunteer day. Thanks so much to Sophie Hartnell from the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust for organising the group, and thankfully the weather playing its part, producing bright sunshine after the heavy rainfall event that the area had experienced the previous week.

Donning their boots and thick gloves, with loppers and saws at the ready, our Hut Manager David had made it clear to the team that some of the tasks on his job list were not for the faint hearted! Gorse was pruned back from the main track, native plantings were freed from long grass and some targeted releasing of saplings from among the gorse canopy will enable the native plantings along the track to thrive.

Thanks Sophie, David and team for your great mahi!
