Suky’s Walking Access Commission Award Presentation and Retirement Function

The tributes flowed at a recent event when our Trust Manager Suky Thompson was formally presented with an Outdoor Access Champion Award from the Walking Access Commission. This New Zealand wide award recognises the significant and lasting contribution she has made to both improving and securing outdoors public access here on Banks Peninsula.

Walking Access Commissions Celia Wade-Brown and Chief Executive Ric Cillinane present Suky with her award, alongside Geoff Holgate

The event also acknowledged Suky’s upcoming retirement at the end of this month.

Rod Donald Trust Co-chair Richard Suggate shared memories, stories, and also acknowledged the many attributes that have enabled Suky to be so successful in the role she has faithfully carried out for the last eleven years.
The Trusts brochure illustrator Steve Pearce surprised Suky with this wonderful caricature, which we think sums her up perfectly, even down to the earrings!
The Hilltop Hotel was the perfect setting for the luncheon, looking down over the beautiful Akaroa Harbour that Suky loves so much.

You can read the tributes to Suky from both the Walking Access Commission and Stuff.
