Peter Ramsden named on Queen’s Birthday Honours List

We wish to congratulate Peter Te Rangi Hiroa Ramsden who has been named on the Queen’s Birthday honours list receiving a New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to conservation.

As a kaumātua and Deputy Chair of Te Runanga o Koukourārata he has led numerous conservation initiatives with many organisations in the Canterbury region. He is a former Canterbury Aoraki Conservation Board appointee and the current Environment Canterbury Water Zone Committee lead for Ngāi Tahu. Peter has been a member of the Okains Bay Māori and Colonial Museum Board and the Okains Bay Reserve Management Board since 2000 and played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust Kakanui Covenant located in Koukourārata. Mr Ramsden is also an active supporter of the Pest Free Banks Peninsula Project.

The Trust is grateful to Peter for his assistance with the naming of the Te Ara Pātaka walking track, and helping us with Te Reo place names in our walking information.
