Trust contractor David Brailsford accompanied by Trust Manager Suky Thompson spent a happy morning installing bright orange track markers on the Monument South track. Monument South starts at the end of the Kaituna Valley Road and connects to Te Ara Pataka (Summit Walkway) on the eastern flank of Little Mt Herbert. It’s a beautiful walk up through Te Ara Patiki farm, which owners Chris and Vicky Parr have protected with a Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust covenant. You can make a good loop route walking up from Kaituna Valley to the Packhorse Hut late afternoon, and then a full day walk the next day to return to Kaituna Valley via Monument South track.
