We are delighted with this new initiative to encourage tamariki and their whanau to explore sections of the Little River Rail Trail as a biking adventure.
This project is run in collaboration with the Christchurch City Council’s Cycle Safe schools programme and Selwyn Sports Trust’s iBike programme. School children can be given the passport by the staff involved in these programmes so that tamariki are encouraged to bike sections of the Little River Rail Trail with their parents. Once they have completed two sections, verified with an orienteering punch in their passport at two of the four landmark locations, they are eligible for a reward of a Tip top ice cream from the Little River Cafe and Store!
Keep an eye out for these ‘passport punchers’ at the four designated locations along the trail:

Many thanks to the Christchurch City Council for providing a grant for printing the passport and helping us figure out how to make this work and Selwyn District Council for contributing towards the cost of some ice creams, which we hope will be a big incentive to encourage children to get out and experience the amazing sites on the Rail Trail. Thanks to Little River Cafe and Store for agreeing to help make this initiative work.
Watch our Little River Rail Trail video for some handy information before you plan your adventure – many thanks to the Christchurch City Council for compiling this for us.
