Happy Birthday to Hugh Wilson and his twin sister Hilary on their 75th milestone. Excellent organisation by Tricia Hewlett and the whole Hinewai team meant the wonderful celebration on Sunday February 23 ran smoothly and the hundreds attending were kept busy with a wide range of activities and stalls to visit.
The Rod Donald Trust was proud to sponsor the Art Competition. We thank all the artists who created an amazing variety of high quality work for the event. Overall winner was Tracey Foley with her beautiful painting of Hugh Wilson entitled “Thank you”, inspired by the film Fools and Dreamers. How entirely appropriate – it summarised everyone’s gratitude to Hugh for all he has taught us about the power of nature and how to support her.
Rod Donald Trustees Cynthia Roberts and Bob Webster and staff Suky Thompson and Sue Church present Hugh Wilson with a nourishing fruit cake to sustain him during long journeys to work at the outer wilds of Hinewai.

The art competition winners were selected by popular vote, setting guests the difficult task of choosing their favourite – not easy with such a wide variety of beautiful art.

The sun shone and Hinewai looked incredibly beautiful after welcome rain the day before.
