Devastation in Eastern Bays

Hinewai lower carpark area

Flooding devastation in the Eastern Bays from Pohatu/Flea Bay to Le Bons Bay is heartbreaking. Known as the Wildside, this area of outstanding conservation work was hit by extraordinary rain on December 15. Massive slips and flooding have ripped through Hinewai Reserve, the Pohatu Penguin colony, access roads, tracks, bridges and people’s homes, gardens and outbuildings. Our thoughts go out to all of you working to clean up and put your lives back together.

Tracks in the lower part of Hinewai are closed. The Banks Peninsula Track and Pohatu are open. Please do support them.
