Conservation Awards

The Trust was delighted to receive an award from Department of Conservation at the Conservation Week function held in the Air NZ Aviation Institute on September 18. The award recognised our partnership with DOC on Te Ara Pataka and the Goat eradication pilot.

Banks Peninsula did well at the awards with Ian McClennan from the Ōtamahua/Quail Island Trust and Francis and Shireen Helps from Pohatu Penguins also receiving awards. Thank you DOC for recognising the hard work of the Trust and our other Banks Peninsula colleagues.

Ian McLennan, Chair of the Otamahua/Quail Island Trust was recognised for his pro bono design work to redevelop the former caretakers cottage on the island to family tramping style accommodation.


Francis and Shireen Helps were recognised for their many years of work to protect the penguins at Pohatu/Flea Bay and for keeping a close eye on the marine reserve.
