The 2016 Banks Peninsula Walking Festival kicked off with great weather on Saturday November 5th. The Penguins of Godley Head group enjoyed fabulous views from DOC’s excellent headland track. After climbing the ladder to the beach inside the predator proof fence and were treated to a fantastic talk on the penguins by Chris Challies, the scientist who has been studying them for 40 years, and from nurses Thomas Stracke and Kristina Schuett who run a recovery centre for injured penguins. Participants even got to hold the furry chicks.
