Regeneration on Te Ahu Pātiki

Stock were mustered off Te Ahu Patiki 9 months ago and exciting signs of regeneration are already visible. Palatable plants that would have been eaten off are now making a comeback.

Trust Manager Suky Thompson points out a Putaputaweta (Marble Leaf) that has germinated on the buttress of the big Matai on Faulker Track. “Right at cattle nose height”, says Suky, ”this would have been munched off for sure. It feels like a reward for making the big Matai much more obvious to walkers with a slight track re-route.”

Ferns are coming back too.
